OCJP (Oracle Certified Java Programmer) previously known as SCJP (Sun Certified Java Programmer) is a prestigious exam to clear. (It certifies that you have an advanced knowledge of core Java programming language). And to clear that exam is with 100 percentage is out of this world. So when one of my colleagues Apurv Gaurav Kapri achieved this feat everyone was filled with a feeling of awe. I caught up with him asked him few questions about his achievement.
Q. What inspired you to take this exam?
A. I was always interested in Object Oriented concepts from my school days. And when Java programming language was introduced to us in the third semester I was quite fascinated by it. As you know curriculum studies are not always enough to satisfy you quest for knowledge so I decided to pursue an advanced course in this regard.
Q. There are many certifications in the market, why only Java?
A Java is the most widely used language on the internet. Today people are spending more time on internet than on any other task on their system. So this language has an immense potential. You can design web pages, make apps, and provide connectivity and what not with the help of Java. Also the world's most popular mobile operating Android system is also based on the Java language.
Q. How did you prepare for this exam?
A. I believe that the key to succeed in this exam is consistency. You don't have to study more you just have to be steady. Study for just 2 hours a day but make sure that you dedicate at least dedicate 5 days a week and in 2-3 months you will be ready for the exam. Two books are of great importance in this exam. One is A Programmer's Guide to Java SCJP Certification: A Comprehensive Primer by Khalid A Mughal, Rolf W Rasmussen and another is SCJP Sun Certified Programmer for Java 6 Study Exam 310-065 Guide by Kathy Sierra, Bert Bates. Of these the former is a great book to build your concepts and latter gives you an idea to what will be asked in the exam.
Q. What are your future plans?
A. I want to purse the Oracle Certified Master Java SE Developer certification which is the next step in Oracle's Java line of certifications some time in future. Currently I am developing a mobile game based on Java. Apart from the technical stuff I am also taking classes to learn the Spanish Language.
Stuff like these make a student rise above the rest and sure did help him to secure a placement from TCS, Wipro, HCl etc. And I hope that he makes great advances in the field of technology.
